Choose a photographer that you vibe with
Standing on the receiving end of a camera can feel awkward and unnatural. I have spent a lot of time on both ends of the camera, so I can understand and relate! It’s important to find a photographer you vibe with who will make you feel relaxed, help you loosen up, and even make you laugh!
Make sure there style matches with your vibe
All photographers have their own natural style. Some photographers have bright and vibrant photos while others have soft and airy photos. Some have brown tones in their editing style and some more vintage. Make sure you really look at your photographers portfolio to make sure there style matches with the look you are going for.
Prioritize the investment, not the price.
We all have heard of the photographer who only charges $10 for a family session with 3 hours of coverage, 1500 photos and a unicorn. But the real question is, are the photos really worth it? You can pay low prices when hiring a photographer, especially a new photographer but are you going to get photos that you love?
When choosing a photographer, don’t just price shop. Find a photographer whose work takes your breath away and has a good track record (with verified reviews) that also is active and attentive to your needs.
A lower price doesn’t necessarily mean you get a bigger deal. The time and attention to detail that goes into preparing your photo session is valuable too, make sure that you invest in your family and your memories!
Quality is more important than quality
I cringe when I look back at the galleries I gave my clients when I first started 16 years ago. Those galleries were full of duplicates, awkward smiles, and strange compositions. I thought I was providing my clients an excellent service by giving them more to choose from but in reality nobody likes to look at awkward photos of themselves. I would rather give my clients 50 amazing photos than 200 mediocre ones. More photos does not mean better photos.
Good, Professional Photographers play by the rules.
Although it may surprise you, I really feel that a good photographer has guidelines in place and written expectations to not only protect themselves, but most important protects you, the client. An experienced photographer has clearly communicated policies and procedures and will follow these when serving you. By following my procedures and guidelines, I am ensuring that each of my clients is receiving the same high-quality experience and that there are no surprises. A good photographer has solid workflows, and a solid business model.
Chosing a photographer may seem intimidating, but the perfect place to start is their website and social media. If you feel like you van vibe with that photographer, research there style and there reputation and the rest falls into place!
